Immunity takes time to build, and several travel vaccines require more than one dose spaced weeks apart. Four to six weeks before departure gives you room to complete a series and still be protected when you land. If your trip is sooner than that, come in anyway. Partial protection is worth having, and some vaccines work on a shorter timeline.
A travel consultation looks at your destination, your itinerary, how long you are staying, and whether you will be in cities or rural areas, since the recommendations differ. We also check that your routine vaccines are current, because those matter abroad too, and we talk through non-vaccine items such as malaria prophylaxis and a traveler’s diarrhea plan where relevant.
